Shadetree mechanic? Got tips? Join Backyard Mechanics.

If you're spending time under the hood in the garage or backyard and want to spend more time getting productive work done and a little less time banging your knuckles, click over to the Backyard Mechanics group.
Recently, pcinoregon asked some questions about work on a Ford Explorer. It seems there are some transmission issues that need ironed out. And Bobalamma posed an age-old question: How to keep the peace at home but still keep that old toolbox (and extra set of wrenches). So if you've got an idea or a question of your own, join the group and ask away.

In case you didn't know, the Gazette-Times is celebrating 100 years of daily publishing in the mid-valley this year.
June 15 is the official day, but we're leading up to it with regular features in the paper and a profile here on MidValley Voice. There, we're posting photos and information on the history of the paper and we're looking for your stories about our stories. Check out this image of the Gazette building behind a band and a few players lining up for the first Civil War game between U of O and OAC in 1894:

We hear all the time about how engagement listings in the newspaper don't feature photographs of the happy couple or that the space allowed wedding listings is too short.
Well if you're planning a wedding or just getting engaged, make a wedding listing on MidValley Voice part of your to-do list. You can upload photos, videos and as many details about your plans as you want. Best of all, wedding listings on MVV give you a chance to learn more about businesses you may be looking for to round out the big day: photographers, dresses, flowers, whatever. Become a fan of those businesses to read and tell people about your experiences with businesses and become a fan of those businesses to take advantage of special offers when available. Need a little inspiration? Take a look at Brandon & Megan's August Wedding page. And congratulations to them.

I was excited to see this new group on MVV today: the Heart of the Valley Hula Dance Troupe.
I'm hoping they follow with some video. I guess I'm in an island kind of mood.

By now, you've heard about the cougar prowling around north Corvallis and plans by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife to catch and kill the cat.
But there's been lots of talk about relocating it or getting a preserve or something to collect it. What do you think?

Here's a tip of the hat to Entertainer Editor Nancy Raskauskas, who is seriously prolific on the Web.
Today, I'm highlighting her videos of local bands that she's been posting to MidValley Voice. Check out her blog post detailing this year's OSU Battle of the Bands lineup, complete with video from the tryouts. And take a minute to check out The Entertainer YouTube channel, follow along on Twitter, or get linked up via MySpace or Facebook. Great job, Nancy!

Besides what seemed like an endless line of folks migrating from the coast this weekend (and I was one of them, so I can't knock it), it appears that another spring migration is in full-swing.
Don (aka Naturalist97333) discovered a large group of painted lady butterflies while riding home from work this week. He reported on the encounter and snapped photos of them, too.
Any other wildlife starting to shake off the winter and soak up the sunlight? Let's hear about it. |
