Wrenchers and Wrenches
Posted by: Bobalamma on April 8, 2009 at 5:00PM PST
I have an old red toolbox. I think it is a Waterloo. It has been holding my tools (and other castaway parts) for years. I even have the little sticky calendar you get from your insurance agent, stuck on the lid frozen at 1986. I made the decision to buy the new triple stacker at Sears. Oh, it is beautiful; gloss black, soft wrench cushions and lots of room for most of the tools. My wife now looks at the old toolbox and wonders when I am getting rid of it. She tactfully indicates it is no longer needed and to add insult to injury, she commented with a great deal of confidence, that I had a lot of wrenches the same size and "do I need two of each?"

Two questions.

1. Wow, reality check, what do I do? Do I let "Waterloo" go? Or keep?

2. Can a man have two tool boxes and live peacefully with the woman he loves?

1- Old tools cannot co-mingle with new tools. There is no way the cast away parts will feel comfortable in a new abode. An '86 calendar on an '09 tool box??? No way. Takes away from the ambiance, and besides antiques need patina.
Show me a job that only needs one wrench of any size and I'll bet you'll be using pliers on the other side of the bolt to hold it. AND...you can never have too many tools.
Does your wife only have one spoon, pan and bowl to cook with? I don't think so.

2-Leave the toolboxes in the garage. It WILL make it more peaceful with the one you love. ;-)

What about the need to keep metric and English (and Whitworth) separate? Or room for Phillips and flathead screwdrivers to stay sorted by size? Or storage of non-traditional tools such as the nuts and bolts collection, files, sandpaper, etc. There's never enough storage in the garage or in the kitchen!
