Shadetree mechanic? Got tips? Join Backyard Mechanics.
Posted by: Matt Neznanski on May 28, 2009 at 11:48AM PST
If you're spending time under the hood in the garage or backyard and want to spend more time getting productive work done and a little less time banging your knuckles, click over to the Backyard Mechanics group.

Recently, pcinoregon asked some questions about work on a Ford Explorer. It seems there are some transmission issues that need ironed out.

And Bobalamma posed an age-old question: How to keep the peace at home but still keep that old toolbox (and extra set of wrenches).

So if you've got an idea or a question of your own, join the group and ask away.

Look into dealerships.
be willing to start at changing oil, or washing cars but from there your in a good place to show what you can do.
most dealerships will pay for your ASE certs.
Changing oil and up selling services will impress most service managers, especially if you can do it fast and accurately.
You will need your own tools, very few mechanic jobs have tools supplied to you other than specialty tools, or dealer specific tools.
